Developed by Poulten Selfe & Lee, the JETVISC was presented to a worldwide audience at the recent Petroleum Seminar, held at RHEOTEK USA Inc.'s Kentucky base.
PSL's expertise in manufacturing dedicated viscosity analysers, under the RHEOTEK brand, has enabled a world first. The JETVISC is the first fully automated, dedicated, aviation fuel viscosity analyser.
Development of the JETVISC started in July 2007 and has taken a little over 1 year to complete. Recent trials of the instrument at PSL's UK Headquarters, based just outside London, were an incredible success.
Typically taking between 1 and 2 hours to complete, the manual test method for measuring aviation fuel viscosity is time consuming, labour intensive and difficult to reproduce. With a JETVISC, the operator pours in 12mL of sample, enters the sample identification and presses Start Test. 20 to 30 minutes later the result is printed onto the built in thermal printer.
Laboratory's who are required to follow ASTM D445 or ISO 3104 will not be disappointed as the JETVISC complies 100%. It utilises a standard ASTM Ubbelohde Viscometer. Temperature control is easily within +/- 0.01 degrees Celsius. All steps of the method are adhered to including the drawing up of the sample prior to the temperature lowering (which protects the capillary from icing up). The JETVISC utilises dessicant in order to maintain dry air within the viscometer tube before and during the test. Following the test the viscometer is cleaned and dried in situ. Extremely easy to use the JETVISC has a touchscreen and automatically makes its own data back-up, into its built in solid state memory.
